My Biography
Brigadier General (Professor) Mohammad Ismail Hossain completed his MBBS from Sher-E-Bangla Medical College. Following his internship, he joined the Army Medical Corps in 1994, serving in various roles both domestically and internationally. He began his ophthalmology residency at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, where he earned the title of Graded Specialist in Ophthalmology. He further advanced his qualifications with a Diploma in Ophthalmology (DO) from Dhaka University, as well as MCPS and FCPS from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons.
In 2009 and 2010, he successfully completed the FRCS (Edinburgh) exams. That same year, he was recognized as a Classified Specialist in Ophthalmology by the Director General of Medical Services. He also passed the ICO examination, held by the International Federation of Ophthalmological Societies. His further training includes an ICO fellowship in Vitreo-Retina Surgery and Medicine from LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India, and an ICO-SAARC Fellowship from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India.
Dr. Hossain completed postgraduate fellowships in Phaco surgery at Mahatma Eye Bank Eye Hospital in Nagpur, India, and Bangladesh Trust Eye Hospital in Dhaka. He also earned the FACS from the American College of Surgeons and the FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow.
Currently, Prof. Brigadier General (Dr.) Ismail Hossain serves as Professor and Head of the Ophthalmology Department at the Armed Forces Medical College in Dhaka Cantonment, and as a Vitreo-Retina surgeon at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka Cantonment. He is a high-volume phaco and vitreo-retina surgeon, with numerous publications and presentations at both national and international levels. Additionally, he has authored two textbooks for undergraduate medical students.
